ROUND TABLE TALES || Ser Gareth

Fiction (12-18) Young Adults   •   04 Nov 2025

Known as “Beaumains” (Fair Hands), Sir Gareth was the youngest brother of Sir Gawain and a member of the Orkney clan. Despite his royal lineage, he initially arrived at Camelot incognito and chose to work in the royal kitchens for a year to prove his worth without relying on family status. His humility earned him the teasing nickname "Beaumains" from Sir Kay, but Gareth bore it with quiet dignity.

When he finally requested a quest, he was sent to rescue Lady Lyonesse from the Red Knight of the Red Lands. Through a series of remarkable feats, including defeating several powerful adversaries, Gareth proved his unmatched bravery and knightly honor. He eventually married Lyonesse, solidifying his rise from the kitchens to the nobility.

Gareth’s calm demeanor and loyalty made him beloved among the Round Table, and he often served as a voice of reason amid family feuds. His tragic end came during Lancelot’s rescue of Guinevere; he was unarmed and present merely out of obligation, yet killed in the chaos. His death, along with that of his brother Gaheris, devastated Gawain and helped fracture the unity of Arthur’s court.

Gareth’s story is a powerful tale of virtue rising from humility, and of a noble soul undone not by his own flaws, but by the bitterness and tragedy that surrounded the twilight of Camelot.
